What is Lutheranism?

Lutheranism is a major branch of Protestant Christianity that holds to the teachings of Martin Luther, and his understanding of the Scriptures, which emphasize salvation by grace through faith, and the authority of Scripture.   Today there is the complexity of practice, profession, and proclamation., meaning it is possible for Lutheran culture to remain strong, albeit it only for a time, where practice and profession are weak.

What do we mean by Lutheran Theology?

The historic Confessions of The Lutheran church are designed to state the belief of the Church - they lay out who we are, and that is key to understanding what it is to either be  Lutheran, or to worship within a Lutheran congregation.

At its core Lutheran theology attempts to be faithful to Scripture - accepting the full authority of God's Word, and drawing on this that God is a God of both judgement and mercy.  That he relates to us through his Son Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, and that nothing in that is more important than faith and grace from which everything else flows.
